Often times in real estate a buyer will ask if where they are looking is a good neighborhood. Well sorry but, "Don't ask, we can't tell". It is unlawful for real estate agents to 'Steer' buyers to one area over another. Steering is a violation of Federal Law that states that real estate agents can not say one way or another if an area is a good place to live or not. This recently happened to me and I had to gently let my clients know that I could not provide that type of information. They thanked me for being straight forward with them.
To find out about an neighborhood it is the responsibility of the buyers to research the area first or call the local police station for the information.
Offer me your thoughts, has this happened to you?
